Context
Memory Lane is an app on the Amazon Alexa suite. (Assume that we are platform agnostic). You ask Alexa to open Memory Lane and then direct her to a year. In return, she’ll play a public memory correlating to the year. Right now, only American historical memories are loaded into the database, because they are in the public domain.
Challenges
For public memories, SoundMind independently researches and uploads historical facts to Memory Lane from the years through the present. The SoundMind team has hundreds more, however, the process is extremely labor-intensive and manual. It can take upwards of 8 hours to upload 30 memories-now push that across 6 decades!
SoundMind also wants customers to have their private memories on Memory Lane. Amazon’s current policy does not allow users to record content through Alexa, and SoundMind does not have the web function to upload personal memories for dissemination through the Memory Lane skill.
Goals
We focused on developing technology-enabled platform for the collection and dissemination of personal memories
Enable clients the ability to store their memories in an easy, efficient manner
Enable clients and their families the ability to play back their memories in an easy, efficient manner
Personas
Meet Fiona's family - Randy, Timmy, and her friend - Sarah!
Solution
Features
Users can upload memories that will be stored in My Memories, then create playlists that can be set as private or public. Public memories will be shared with friends and family, fostering a sense of community.
User Flow
There are 4 types of users:
Contributor: This user can view and contribute to the end user’s account by requesting to upload memories and create playlists. However, these requests need to be approved by the Admin.
Admin: This user manages the end user’s account. In addition to uploading memories and creating playlists, they can reject or approve memories submitted by contributors, as well as add or remove friends from the end user’s account.
Friend: This user doesn’t have access to the end user’s account. As friends, they can view the end user’s account as well as interact with likes and comments, and vice versa.
End-User: This user doesn’t necessarily use or manage their account directly as they are not familiar with technology. They mainly interact with Alexa to add memories or listen to memories uploaded by Contributor and Admin, as well as Friend.
Timmy and Randy can upload memories to Fiona’s account.
Randy will review all pending memories and decide to either approve or reject them.
All approved memories will be available in Fiona’s account under My Memories -
3.1: Memories can be set as private or public
3.2: Memories can be curated into playlists. Playlists can be set as private or public.
All public memories/playlists will be shared on the NewsFeed among friends’ public memories.
Sarah can like and comment on Fiona’s public memories.
Without logging into her account, Fiona can use Alexa to open Memory Lane -
6.1: She can upload her memories which go straight to her My Memories, then she can create playlists.
6.2: She can play all her memories and playlists, as well as friends’ public memories and likes/comments.
